George Washington knew the importance of national security

Geoge Washington knew the importance of national security and the need to be prepared to defend our Country. He said "There is a rank due to the United States among nations, which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be know that we are at all time ready for war." (The 5000 year leap, p264) He also said, "To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means to preserving peace." (Fitzpatrick, Writings of George Washington 30:491)

  1. The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved.
    CONFUCIUS (551 BC - 479 BC)
